Hylsskardet is known for the distinctive formation in the mountains between Hylen and Vaage. The trip here is a great break from the drive along the National Tourist Route.
Hylen was an important junction and trading center from 1850 until the middle of the 20th century when new roads were built in the municipality. The Hylsskardet is an important cultural monument for its distinctive character, but also because of the important status this pass had for travelers between the fjord and the mountain area.
Park the car in Hylen by Vågstunellen, which is on the Ryfylke National Tourist Route. From here you follow the historic route which is marked up the pass to a great view of Hylen and Vaage.
