Røynevarden croft is situated on a hillside overlooking Suldalsvatnet lake, just off the National Tourist Route Ryfylke.

Norway had many smallholdings as a result of its strong population growth in the 18th and 19th centuries, but Røynevarden is one of the crofts that have been preserved to serve as a museum. A visit to Røynevarden gives a strong impression of what life on such a smallholding may have been like.

The Ryfylke Museum has carried out an extensive restoration of the buildings. In the reconstructed barn is an exhibition about life at Røynevarden.

The barn and the exhibition are open all year. The other buildings are generally closed, but can be opened for group tours on request.
